Welcome back to The Nick Broadhurst Show. I’m your host, Nick Broadhurst. You can catch all of my work including my music, my music videos, podcast episodes, blog posts, social media, everything that I do at www.iamnickbroadhurst.com.

And if you listen to Spotify please check out iamnickbroadhurst.com/Spotify which will redirect you straight to my artist profile. And I know that I have quite a broad demographic, I have babies and toddlers and eighty year olds, everything in between who listen to my music.

And so everyone listens on different platforms. So no matter where you listen to music, whether it’s iTunes or Spotify or Deezer or Google Play, you can definitely catch my music on all platforms. So just search for the word Nick broadhurst and I will come up.

And that song you were listening to is my song Just Us, which is currently playing on the radio right now. And funny enough it gets played a lot in shopping malls which I found super interesting and exciting to be honest because the more that my music is in the mainstream I think that means that there is a need for this music which is just really really exciting for me.

And you can hear the full song at iamnickbroadhurst.com/just us. And check out the music video as well which is on that page because it features my beautiful wife Melissa, it’s shot in our home and it’s a really personal one. And it was shot at a time when I was really struggling actually.

You can probably see this in just my physical body, I was super lean and it was a pretty tough time for me. But I’m through the other side of that and life is damn good. But anyway, check it out and I would love to hear what you think. Tag me on social media @IAmNickBroadhurst.

I have a question for you today, “Do you ever find yourself being drawn to the latest biohack, the latest superfood, the latest supplement, the latest guru, the latest gadget that will fast track your mindfulness, the latest whatever… you can fill in the blanks.”

Now I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with these things, not at all. And they can be a load of fun to explore. They’re all tools for personal development which I love. The question is, “From where are we searching for these things?”

Are they from a position of loving our bodies, loving our minds, loving our soul? Or are they from a place of wanting to fix ourselves? And every day we are absolutely bombarded with so many messages trying to sell us something that will make our lives better.

But right at our fingertips we have everything we need to create everything we desire. And of course it’s easy for me to say that because I live in a very blessed part of the world, I’ve had a very charmed upbringing. And I know everyone is in a different situation, but every single one of us has the tools I’m going to talk to you about today.

And the beautiful thing about this is that often the most powerful things are the most simple. But herein lies the catch and you may have heard me say this before which is why I’ve decided to do a whole episode on this. I believe this is a topic that’s most worthy of a whole episode. The simple things are easy to do but they are also very easy not to do.

So I wanted to pose a question to you today. What is something that is super simple that you know deep down will benefit you but you keep putting it off? Now for me the most powerful practice and one of the most simple that we can all do but gets ignored is gratitude.

And a question you’ll hear all the time in our house is, what are three things that you are most grateful for? And this is the thing, the very first thing that Melissa asks me when we wake up. As soon as I open my eyes, I roll over and she’ll be there smiling at me, and she’ll ask, what are three things that you are grateful for?

And when it comes to meal time, dinners in our house, my favorite favorite part of dinner is paying gratitude for the food that we eat. And if you missed my episode number 34, which you can catch at iamnickbroadhurst.com/34, is called Bless Thy Food, you can hear why we do this in our house and some of the signs behind doing it as well.

But at each meal here are some simple things that are very easy to do but very easy not to do. But we do them every time and we absolutely love it. It just gives you such a feeling of love and gratitude and completeness at each meal. And so the first thing we ask each other is, what are three things that you are grateful for? And we’ll go around the table and say three things.

The next thing is, what was your favorite part of the day? I love that, it’s so so much fun. The next one is, what’s one thing that we could improve? Which is a really interesting question and, you know, it just makes us think about our day in a deeper way and say, “Okay cool, you know, there was that one thing which I did today which didn’t come from a place of love, I could have been more kind,” or whatever it is.

And the last one is acknowledgement where we acknowledge each other for something that we have done that day or even just in general. So an example of that might be let’s say my son Leo for example, “I acknowledge you, Leo, for the way you do your school work and do so well at school but you do it with such ease and grace.” Just something simple like that.

And finally at night we round out the day again with the same thing, three things we’re grateful for. We say this to each other when we’re in bed. And even better, even more powerful I find is writing these things down. If you really want to embed gratitude into your life, it’s so so so powerful if you write it down. I know this can sound woo woo, I get it. But this woo woo stuff is the real deal. There is nothing but the woo woo. I mean, that’s why we’re here, right? We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

So what are other things that are easy to do but so easy not to do? And I want to focus on a few things here which expedite our growth. Things that are enlightening. So I mentioned gratitude; the next one I think is pretty obvious, would be meditation. It’s very very easy to do and I think people make it out to be a lot harder than it actually is. It’s incredibly simple. It doesn’t matter who you are, there is a style of meditation out there which suits you and which will be easy for you to embed into your daily life.

The next one would be yoga. I mean I just love yoga; it’s not so much about the positions, the Asanas as they’re called, it’s about the system of yoga. All the limbs of yoga, there are 8 limbs of yoga.

And yoga is a system of living. And it’s definitely worth diving into in a bit more detail. There’s a great book called The Eight Limbs of Yoga by one of my mentors, Bhava Ram, which I’ll link to in the show notes which will be iamnickbroadhurst.com/36.

And another really simple one, just a physical one, would be to walk 10,000 steps per day. I mean do you know how much benefit that has on your health, on your mind, on your spirit? Just talking a walk. It’s so profound.

Now, I know that these aren’t the sexiest or the newest gadgets, so the newest biohacks but these my friends are the ultimate biohack, and they’re free. What could be better than that, right? So you can throw some other simple things in there, like smiling at a stranger, giving someone a random compliment, telling your friend or a family member or a lover why you love them. Not just that you love them but why do you love them so much.

And I guarantee there is no appeal that is sweeter or more effective than love. Using love as your operating system, making that long long long journey. It’s about one foot long from your head to your heart as often as you can each day. That to me is the ultimate biohack.

And speaking of love, I love doing this podcast; seriously, I love it so much and I’m so grateful… speaking of gratitude, I’m so grateful to have your presence today. And I thank you for showing up. For all the show notes today you can head to iamnickbroadhurst.com/36, where you can also get a full transcript of the show if you prefer to read.

So, thank you for being here today. Thank you for listening. Thank you for wanting to be more. And remember today to look up, see the beauty around you, see the beauty within you, make use of the simple things that we are all blessed with the ability to use.

Be gentle with yourself today, make that journey from your head to your heart as often as you can, listen to your intuition, ask yourself and those around you what are three things that you are grateful for. And as always, have a beautiful day. I love you heaps. Ciao.
